Odyssey 222: The Most Honest Can, and the Most Caffeinated

Two things about Odyssey are true at once, and most write-ups only mention one of them.

The first is that it publishes more real numbers than any other ready-to-drink can we checked. 1,500 mg of organic lion’s mane. 1,250 mg of organic cordyceps. 85 mg of L-theanine. 100 mg of panax ginseng. Printed per ingredient, no blend.

The second is that the can also holds 222 mg of caffeine, which is where the product name comes from, and which is roughly two and a half cups of coffee.

Read the brand, not just the can

Odyssey used to sell itself as a mushroom elixir. It does not any more. The store now trades as Odyssey Functional Energy, the old odysseyelixir.com address redirects there, and the whole line is built around caffeine tiers, 85 mg or 222 mg, with the mushrooms as the differentiator against a normal energy drink.

That repositioning is the most useful fact about this product, and it is why any article describing Odyssey as a calm adaptogen sipper is describing a brand that no longer exists. If you buy the 222 expecting a gentle afternoon drink, you have bought an energy drink with mushrooms in it. Which is a fine thing to buy, on purpose.

222 mg is more than a Red Bull. That is not a criticism, it is a spec. It is a criticism only if the packaging led you to expect otherwise, and adaptogen branding does tend to.

The L-theanine is undersized for the caffeine it is buffering. The pairing of L-theanine and caffeine is well trodden, and the acute studies use around 200 mg of theanine. There is 85 mg here against 222 mg of caffeine, which is a lot of caffeine and not much of the thing that is supposed to smooth it out. If jitters are your reason for leaving normal energy drinks, look at the 85 mg caffeine line instead, which carries the same 85 mg of theanine against a third of the stimulant.

What the numbers are worth

The lion’s mane is the real headline. 1,500 mg in one can is the closest anything in this set gets to the 2 g a day used in the 2026 cognition trial. No other can here will even tell you its amount.

It is the only tier 1 can. Every other ready-to-drink product on this site either gives a blend total or gives nothing.

Verdict: The best-disclosed can in the category, and the one most likely to be bought for the wrong reason. If you want mushrooms, this delivers a real dose. If you want calm, the 222 mg of caffeine will beat every adaptogen in the can to the finish line.
